Performance zur 11. Biennale der Architektur in Sao Paulo

Eine kollaborative Wanderung 8 Tage / 148 km
Als Eröffnungsprojekt der Biennale der Architektur von Sao Paulo war die Wanderung eine Einladung die zentrumsfokussierte Sicht auf Architektur umzudrehen und als physische Bewegung zu erleben. Mit ethnografischem Interesse und einem Fokus auf Architektur ohne Architekten wanderten eine Gruppe mit wechselnden Teilnehmern durch die Randbereiche Sao Paulos und durch die verschiedenartigen Stadtwelten jenseits des Zentrums. Begleitet wurde die Wanderung auf Social Media, Fernsehbeiträgen, dokumentiert in einem Twitter Livestream und einer Karte, die den Standort der Gruppe in Echtzeit anzeigte.

Beitragen konnte jeder durch Mitwandern, kommentieren im Social Media Space, Teilen eigener Inhalte oder die Bereitschaft eine Stop für die Wanderung zu bieten und ein Projekt oder Idee vorzustellen.

6x3x3 – Theorie- und Performanceprojekt

„6x3x3“ is a performance as it is a project of theory. In the three metropoles
Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Hamburg 6 participants from these cities – artists,
architects, historians, academics – are asked to realize within 3 days 3 parallel
interventions in urban space in teams of two. One in the role of the host the
other as guest. Embedded in the everyday life of the host, the artistic creation
will take his or her understanding of the city and the urban spaces as a point of
entry. The project hopes to ignite an intense process of translating, understanding
as well as finding and exchanging narratives about the elements of the city.
Artistic urban interventions become tools to activate collective processes and
to enable polyloque between different cultural contexts, artistic positions and
practices. The individual experience of each team is the beginning of a search
process. In creating manyfold personal experiences of collaborations this search
aims to aggregate some of these experiences into more general interfaces, where
the three urban worlds can be brought into relation to each other.

Sideways – Walking Arts Festival

Sideways is a translocal, experimental festival for contemporary art and cultural
research, exploring different ‘pathscapes’ in the northern region of Belgium.
This first-time event did unfold on the go across a four week period in the summer
of 2012. It exhibited a broad program of visual art, walks, live art and sitespecific
interventions. Ubiquitous yet overlooked, these pathscapes comprise a
broad diversity of ‘spaces of going’: crooked rural footpaths; cycleways spanning
many kilometres; straight tow paths on the banks of waterways; transient ‘desire
lines’ leading from one urban area to another; barely perceptible, overgrown
backroads; picturesque hollow ways; etc.
The festival aims to question the past history, present use and future potential
of these landscape features, as well as our conceptions of time, space, movement
and memory and create a collaborative meeting ground.
The festival was structured in 1. a journey 2. festival nodes and 3. concluding
conference.

Big Urban Walks – Große Stadtwanderungen

Big Urban Walks sind tagelange Wanderungen durch die gesamte Region einer großen
urbanen Agglomeration durch einen einzelnen oder eine Gruppe von Forschern.
Die Wanderungen ergeben Karten, Feldnotzizzen, Fotografien und Sounddokumente der
durchquerten Stadträume und dokumentieren Räume und soziale Begegnungen mit der
Stadt.
Diese Wanderungen ist eine Methode der Stadterforschung, die urbane Agglomerationen
Gehen als „arme Methode“ (arm an Methoden und Begriffen) miteinander in
Beziehung setzen kann und die Vergleichsebene aus der Untersuchung gewinnt. Da es
keine „general urban theory“ gibt, die für alle Städte und Stadterfahrungen gilt,
ist Gehen eine vielversprechende Methode um urbane soziale Räume als multi-sensorisches
Erlebnis auf Basis des anthropologischen Raums zu vergleichen.
Diese PhD-Thesis verknüpft Konzepte aus Philosophie, Neuro-Psychologie, Bildender
Kunst und Urban Studies zu einem Methode, die kritisch gegen aktzepierter geograpfische
Methoden der Internationalen Stadtforschung evaluiert wird.

In the past few years, artistic projects in the abandoned and unused areas of Hamburg’s harbor – which is slowly being filled with new, urban uses – have positioned themselves as a way to make art part of daily life for Hamburg’s citizens.

In this context, off-scene projects have a tendency to end up in a no-man’sland between the media and economy with their interests in instrumentalisation on one hand, and their own artistic and political autonomy on the other. Some of these projects develop similar reactions on a strategic level, which have interesting relationships to today’s urban development projects…
